President’s Message

Another JAM-PACKED and EXCITING month at YOUR TEMPLE !!!!!

First, we have begun our s e c on d y e a r o f our Community Religious School (NACHaS). We are very fortunate to have co-principals Monica Ward and Larisa Thomason heading this program and we have over 50 kids registered for this school year !!! The level of enthusiasm in the Temple on Sunday mornings is something we should all experience.

Second, we had the first of eight (that’s correct eight) B’nai Mitzvahs that will take place in the Temple during this school year. Our B’nai Mitzvah program headed by Marla Baer-Peckham and assisted by Lissa Wilson and Caroline Lampert is doing a great job preparing our kids for this very special day in their lives.

Third, the Temple Sanctuary played host to Twickenham Fest on Saturday, August 20. Featuring Huntsville natives Matthew McDonald and Suzanna Phillips, over 150 people from the Huntsville community packed the Temple. We were treated to a night of fantastic classical music performed by these nationally known musicians.

Fourth, on August 21 the Temple Sisterhood held its fifth annual “Night with The Chefs” at the Embassy Suites Hotel. It was a fun night for all those who attended, as we watched the professional and the (not-so professional) prepare a wonderful dinner. The chair people of this committee, Jodi Stephens, Marion Lapidus, Sarla Scherlis and Fern Brazda put in many, many hours of their time to insure the success of this event – and it really showed !

Fifth, I am please to announce that our own Rabbi Bahar was honored this month by the Inter-Faith Mission Service with the “Rabbi Jeffrey Ballon Memorial Service Award”. This award acknowledges the work of Rabbi Bahar throughout this past year with the IMS and I believe adds to the Temple’s prestige within the Huntsville community.

And finally, I am pleased to announce the launch of the NEW TEMPLE WEBSITE. Sara Crocker and her committee have put together a wonderful new site that will serve as a great communication tool for the Congregation and for those people in the community who want to learn more about the Temple. Check it out at: www.templebnaisholom.org !!!  If it sounds like a lot – it is – and there is MUCH MORE TO COME !!!
